First Few Weeks of Math at McDole!

Welcome to a trip through 1st Grade math at Mcdole Elementary. We are excited to show you all that we will accomplish and how we will learn math this year.

The 1st grade team decided to start the year with basic number sense.

We started our year with ten frames and how to represent numbers in many ways.

Listen to Avary's explanation on 10 Frames HERE.

Human 10 Frame

10 Frame Top-it

10 Frame Speed Frame

10 Frame Painting Fun
10 Frame Top-It
*1.OA.3 Understand and apply properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction.

We also spent time with Gus the Plus and Linus the Minus.

Listen to Ashley tell a story about Linus the Minus HERE.

*1.OA.1 - Represent and solve problems involving addition and subtraction.

As we continue the year, students will get to know all of the first grade teachers through our flexible math program. We will focus on the 1st Grade Common Core Standards and chronicle our CC adventures on this blog.

As a team, we hope this is helpful to see how your child is learning new skill and how they are being presented.

We will continue this week and next with more number sense through our 1st unit of Everyday Math. Homework will begin in a week(ish).

We look forward to sharing our math journey with you.

Your Favorite 1st Grade Team,
Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Bright, Miss Gianakakos, Miss Steimel
