Comparing Numbers

"_______ is less than ________"
"_______ is greater than _______"
"_______ is the same as ________"

These are the phrases that you will hear flying out of our 1st grade math classes.
We are starting to compare numbers and objects using our "greater than and less than" symbols.

The students are starting with basic understanding of the concept.
They are building the numbers that they are comparing as one of their "prove it" strategies.

Once we have proof of which number is greater, we are able to place our math symbols to reflect this (Chompers). We talk about how "Chompers" eats the greater number.

The kiddos are having a great time practicing this skill in multiple ways.

The students are also still working hard on Word Problems. This is a skill we will work on all year. These would be fun to practice at home.
